A lovely book was waiting for me when I finally arrived home for my holiday break that explores becoming a mum. Amanda Starling certainly had a challenging ride on her first pregnancy journey – and with her great sense of humour and personal resilience she has moved onto help others!

Mumma to Be was a lighthearted yet heartfelt and candid account of pregnancy. I couldn’t help but giggle to myself as I related to one encounter after another: from “trying” to “baby brain”, from OCD to body neuroses, from know-it-all, to “oh my god, I have no idea!” And this is all only 15 weeks into my first pregnancy!

Amanda is refreshingly honest, unpretentiousand sometimes downright hilarious in her account of her pregnancy. Her story is totally relatable, un-put-downable (I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next) and a relaxed, enjoyable read. Congratulations Amanda – on becoming a Mummy and your fantastic book.

Amanda has such a unique writing style that enables the reader to remain engaged through her honest and at times quite literal approach. Whilst reading, not only was I being educated about the joys of pregnancy and motherhood, but I found myself being empowered as a woman to be able to experience the marvel of carrying a miracle. My fears began to dissipate. This is a brilliant read for any woman, regardless of what stage in life you are. Amanda shares the truth about what “really” happens in pregnancy- exposing things that even your mum wouldn’t tell you. I found this book incredibly easy to read and couldn’t stop laughing. Ladies- make sure your legs are crossed because you are in for a hilarious ride.
